NIGERIA - Boko Haram: Ndume gets tough bail conditions

After spending about one month in detention, the embattled Borno South Senator, Mohammed Ali Ndume, currently in Kuje Prison, can now breath the air of freedom. A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja yesterday granted him bail for N25 million and two sureties in the like sum.

This will, however, depend on how soon he is able to fulfil the stiffer bail conditions reeled out by Justice Gabriel Kolawole after refusing the objections raised by the prosecution counsel and Director of Public Prosecution [DPP], Mrs. Olufemi Fatunde against his bail application.
Ndume is facing a four-count charge preferred against him bordering on acts of terrorism.

Justice Kolawole in his two-hour ruling on Ndume’s bail application, agreed with his counsel, Rickey Tarfa [SAN] that the offence is bailable.
He said in arriving at his decision, he considered the nature of the charge against Ndume as well as the severity of the punishment if convicted.
